Alex's Story
“Ten years ago, I was desperate to find help for my dad, who was a relatively healthy 80-year-old but started exhibiting confusion, forgetfulness, and memory loss. He lived alone, and I was worried about him forgetting to take his medications or leaving the gas stove ignited.
I consulted with his doctor, who suggested we look for a retirement community specializing in memory care. I tried calling retirement communities but was confused about types of senior housing, levels of care, and all the different pricing options.
Then I found a national internet referral organization and called to explain our situation. They transferred me to a call center, who sent me to a local saleswoman who kept asking me what our budget was, and I felt they weren’t listening to my concerns about Dad’s health issues, hobbies, and interests.
I knew there was a better way to search for senior housing and finally found Senior Living Experts, a Chicago based company founded by social worker Lisa Sneddon. She had two incredible advisors working for her, and right from the start, I felt that they listened and understood my concerns. Senior Living Experts sat down with me in person, carefully listened to our situation, and then proposed communities within our budget and desired location.
We felt that we were heard, respected, and given the proper recommendations to make the right decision for my dad. My dad eventually moved to a community and was very happy to spend the last few years of his life there. He was surrounded by great care and good friends, and he was close to his family.
When I heard in 2017 that Lisa decided to move to Oregon and thought about selling Senior Living Experts, my wife Gabi and I jumped at the opportunity to become part of the company that helped me at a time of need.
